Financial Statement Analysis Project
• Identify a publically-traded company and verify that its financial statement information (10-k and xls) is available from SEC.gov (http://sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html)
• Make sure that it’s a company that actually sells a product and has inventory and cost-of-goods sold accounts (no banks, financial services, other services etc.). This will make your analysis easier to complete.
o Companies you cannot choose: Google, Apple, Tesla, Ford, Microsoft, Dell, GAP, Target or any bank or investment company.
• Once you click the company link and see the list of filings on the screen, search for the 10-K and choose a year that has an Interactive Data link beside it. This link will take you to an excel version of the financial statements, which will make the next step easier.
• Create financial statements xls. (income statement and balance sheet) and compute $ and % year-to-year changes (variations) in two additional columns of the spreadsheet.
