Details of assessment task
Based on your study in procurement methods so far, you are required to submit a professionally written report (written in your own words) on one real case study related to strategic procurement management within a construction organisation in any country.
Your report should provide a critical analysis of the impact of the procurement strategy on the construction performance in your case study. For example: Was the case study a successful example of procurement strategies for construction project? What are the impacts of the procurement strategy adopted for your specific case study on the construction supply chain performance?
Your report should also examine contemporary international practice in relation to procurement strategies including relational contracting, strategic project alliance and public-private partnerships within complex construction projects. What relationship based procurement methods were adopted in your case? What are the advantages and disadvantages of these methods?
The report should be based on publicly available information, such as industry magazines, websites, books and electronic documents such as journal and conference papers sourced from internet or libraries. The content of your report should be clearly referenced and the source of case studies referred to in your report should be clear.
Presentation requirements
The report should be presented in a professional manner. It should appear as a professionally structured and organised report, not as an essay. The length of the report should be between 3000 and 3500 words (excluding references and appendices). Page numbers are mandatory.
Please ensure that your name and student identification number be stated clearly on the front cover of your report.
You may use the following outline as a guide for the writing of your report: Executive Summary; Introduction; Background of the Case Study; Critique and analysis of the Case Study; and Conclusion. You do not have to use the exact words outlined above to illustrate the various sections of your report. You may adapt or change the above words or add more main and sub headings to suit what you are trying to express in the various sections of your report. However, the words you choose for the main and sub headings should be able to succinctly reflect what you are trying to express in the various sections of the report.
