Argument Analysis Assignment

The student will compose an argument analysis paper. They are free to choose a written, visual, or verbal argument. It is suggested that they choose an argument that interests, disturbs, excites, amazes or impresses them. Suggested arguments might be political speeches, commercials, printed advertisements, editorials, news stories, or documentaries. The ideal source would make a claim, make efforts to persuade, cite evidence, and employ some form of rhetorical organization. Weaknesses, strengths and the absence of any of these characteristics would be discussed in the paper.
When discussing the effectiveness of the argument, the student must employ the terminology mentioned in this class. Many concepts have been discussed through the course of this class and the application of this knowledge is one factor of the grade. Analysis must be deep and thoughtful, and the failure to incorporate the ideas presented in class will weaken the student’s grade.
